The Liskeard King

Caradon Short Stay School in Liskeard helps young people to find a positive future.

I delivered a Drawingonthings Workshop at the school on 29th Feb, which was a really hot and sunny day. Put together by Barnardo's, the aim of the workshop was to encourage positivity within the group.

There was a lot of interest in using the materials I had brought along: spray paint and paint pens and recycled skateboards as canvases. The whole group worked from initial resignations of not being able to paint or draw (with statements such as "I can't do this!") to finally enjoying the process and creating some very powerful art for them each to keep.

They made some great artwork in the end. Then, as we were packing up headmistress Sue Tysall passed by and the young people (unprompted) asked her if I could paint on a wall somewhere in the school for them! She said "Yes! That one... You had better ask Cosmic though!" I said I would if they helped me, and we got straight to work.



In the end it was me who helped them! The content, words and images are genuinely their idea and there is a lot of meaning packed into this relatively simple looking image. All colouring is their work. The enthusiasm generated to make this piece was very powerful stuff indeed! Good work!

Q Bar: Update 1

The bar re-opened on Saturday. It was supposed to be Friday but, despite everybody's best efforts, five days was not long enough to do a complete re-furbishment of a bar of this size!

I pre-designed the furniture and managed to get it built from scratch in these five days too.

Stuck around long enough on Saturday to see the bar get absolutely full! :)

The bar is complete and open and the artwork is still in progress so if you call in you can see it as I complete it.

If Cosmic did blackboards..

It has been some weeks since I posted anything.. time has really flown by. I have been involved with some varied projects recently and can report more about them soon.

Currently, as part of my freelance practice I provide an art and design service and I try to meet almost any needs. I get lots of varied requests, sometimes I have to adopt a whole new technique or adapt to new materials, other times it is as simple as.. Pen- Wall- Draw!

GET STONED WITH COSMIC JAGGER This thursday nite, perranporth

i used to do some stones gigs with very competent musician friends, we were called the Cosmic Stones (previously to that, the Rolling Pancakes- its a long story!) the line-up changed quite a bit and lots of very loud, late and heady nights were had by all.

so last week i get a call from bono.. "you wanna do a gig?". "sure, bono! i'll be there!! give my love to ireland and the edge" . "its not that bono.. its ryan bono jones from the hitchcock rules..".

it was too late, i had said ill do it.. and just because this bono doesnt wear wrap-around sunnies and hang out with handlebar mustachios.. actually he might! ..but its still no reason to go back on my word.

BACK TO FISTRAL FOR ANOTHER QUIKIE!!

drawing for quiksilver again this weekend!!! fistral beach quiksilver surf showdown 09, also with legendary guitar manufacturers gibson! live music, surf comp and much booze-ridden excitement!!!! ..and hanging out on the gibson tour bus!!

i have no idea what ill be doing constructively, but it will involve drawing on stuff, having fun, surfing, enjoying the music and beer, and hopefully sun, .. you get the idea!! ::)))

..i was just explaining this to a friend, beth, i bumped into just now in the villiage shop. we were talking about what were doing for the weekend, she says "i need a job where i get to do what i enjoy!" i said "what do you enjoy?" and the conversation lead onto photography, travel, food (but not a chef!), maybe organizing foodie nights, etc and i suggested blogging as a way to share and focus on her interest..

..kind of reminded me why i started this.

..so when beth starts her blog ill post a link here. she suggested a great name.
